using color with skin tones for portraits

This is a forum where you can post your art work and ask what the world thinks. I am looking for general feedback, nothing too technical. A push in the right direction would be appreciated.

using color with skin tones for portraits

Postby mojavevic » Tue Apr 15, 2014 12:07 pm

I have just started this past few months, painting people and mostly portraits. I need to know if it's alright to use blues and reds in the painting instead of the traditional skin color. Mojavevic

Sure its alright. In fact, those tones are almost necessary in even natural or realistic paintings, to get the right hues that the flesh naturally has. You have a great start here.. your perspective is on the right track, defining whats in the foreground and whats farther away.. Good job! :)

Welcome, Victoria! Of course it is and as Jenn said, good as a base even for realistic skin tones. I like your style! E

Use any color you want! It's all up to you!
Look at VanGogh's stuff - purple, green, red - it all works!

Yes, the perspective is very good!
