OK fellow artists and other kids

Postby CarlOwen » Wed Dec 13, 2017 2:47 pm

Ok fellow artists and other kids. I saw a picture of digital art, I think. The artist kind of described how he does his work. Unfortunately, I didn't really understand him. But one of his pictures struck such a cord in me that I started seeing all kinds of pallet knife paintings of the landscape around Elephant Butte lake that I have to start today. Simply put, I am inspired. Going to work now. Will post the development of these paintings with comments, of course. I find that working and posting seems somehow to keep me on track and helps me remember the discoveries I make.

Good morning. There are four 18 by 24 inch paintings in this series. I have started the posts from the very beginning of placing all four canvases on my easel and showing the first steps of mixing my paint colors. For this set of paintings I decided to try something different with the sky. Instead of laying in a background of titanium white, letting it dry and then do the color overlays I switched to a smaller pallet knife and laid the mixture of sky colors showing the light clouds and dark sky spaces at the same time. I think it looks more dynamic and less stylized than with the other method. After the sky dries I may have to go back in and do some enhancements here and there. Don't know yet. I kind of like the wildness of this sky process. Anyway, there are 8 posts for the starting point of this series. I think I am going to title it "Elephant Butte Lake II".

Good morning. I felt a work flow attack. So I just followed it. Once the four skies had been painting in, which will be the first jpg posts on this message, I suddenly knew I had solved my problems I had with another series about paintings of aspens in the mountains above Santa Fe that I did about 18 months ago. I did those corrections on five of the paintings. The sixth and last painting in that series still has some problems I need to solve. I hope it doesn't take another 18 months, but we shall see. After I was satisfied with the corrections I immediately started on Eternal Beauty II which I will soon make another forum post covering that process. In the meantime I am being forced to wait at least another week or so for the skies to dry enough to continue with this series about the land around Elephant Butte lake. I will post those five paintings of the mountain aspens series here and in my gallery. Enjoy and of course feel free to comment.

Looking good, all cohesive.. Like the colors.. though a couple of them remind me that here in California, we are suffering fires. :O... really liking the clouds and the movement.

Good morning Jenifer. Yes I have received many comments about how the aspens look like fire. But you know what, they sort of do at just about sunset on a clear day. Could be one of the reasons artists trek into the mountains every year in the fall, me included.

Good morning. I a giving a heads up to anyone reading this. I am stopping painting until sometime this summer. I am in the process of preparing my home to sell and move back to California. Once I have my studio operational again I will be back to submitting work for viewing. Since I still will be doing stuff on my laptop I will still be checking in on the beautiful work other artists are doing on this site.

Hi Jenn. We will be buying a home in or around Running Springs in the San Bernardino mountains in Southern California. My wife wants to be closer, as in back home, to the kids. Thanks for asking. Side note. Eternal Beauty II is finished.
