We are seeking a sand sculptor to participate in a short film project by writer-director Albert Beniada (http://thefilmshop.org/chapters/manhattan/members/albert-beniada/). The film follows a young boy’s quest to make and defend the perfect sand castle against other beachgoers and the elements. The finished film will be presented as part of The FilmShop collective’s end-of-season event in July. Previous events have been covered by publications such as Time Out NY and are attended by industry professionals. The film may also screen at additional festivals.
The sand sculptor should be able to construct a sandcastle on site at the beginning of the shoot day, and possibly rebuild parts of it if we need to do multiple takes of the castle’s eventual destruction. The project calls for a sandcastle built by a child; therefore it should not be overly sophisticated--but definitely something eye-catching and unique, to which the sculptor will be able to bring their own aesthetic vision. (Collaborating with the selected artist on this is an integral aspect of the project.)
Shoot date will be one of the following (this will be a one-day shoot, exact date tbd):
Monday, July 1, 2013; or Tuesday, July 2, 2013
Location will be a public beach in the NYC area.
This is an unpaid position; however, the selected artist’s work will be prominently featured and fully credited in the film. Meals and transportation will be provided.
To apply, please tell us a little bit about yourself (providing a link to a website or work featured elsewhere online, if applicable) and include the reasons for your interest in participating. Reply to this post or via PM with an e-mail address at which you can be reached. Many thanks!
