Yo!

Postby rhknigh » Fri May 24, 2013 5:53 pm

Actually plural Yo!s the latest vinyl custom work that is on Tanya's current project list. These are vinyl figures created by LittleHouseDesigns and Tan scored a contract to make 4 customized ones to be featured in DesignerCon Pasadena. There is currently a contest going on where people are making these Yo! figures resemble Stan Lee, which is just a point of interest, not something she is doing right now. Including a photo of the first Yo! she is turning into a robot (I think that is right anyhow), there is a blank Yo! on the right-hand side to compare notes. Long ways to go, so it looks like a lot done, still much more to come.

This is what she is working on when she is not creating the custom Androids

The androids were just beginning to take off on the last update.

Stay tuned, there is always more. Other droid news from Tanya.

Thanks. I hope to see lots of variety in designs myself. This first one is cyclops style - one eyed. There is much more to come though. The Yo!s are gonna be around for a while. October is her deadline for the 4 ones for the Pasadena show.

This piece has the working title Robo-Yo

Back of Robo-Yo

We were discussing how she makes sure to have interest on the backs of her figurines earlier. We think we have traced it back to the Food Network Challenge "Last Cake Standing" shows. Tanya was a fan of watching these cake decoration competitions on television and recalls that the judges always ALWAYS would walk all the way around them and if the back was too plain or neglected it was always a negative factor. However a well-designed and executed decoration on the back and sides was always favorable. A transferable concept for most 3D art forms, and one not lost on Tanya.

Front-facing RoboYo

Not to leave you wondering about the state of the front of Robo-Yo. Looks like she may be tackling the cyclops eye soon, I see the cabochon has been plucked out...

I like them they're cute! Are they going to be multiple colours or just one single colour?

Vinyl ? do you mean wax as in proto typing

Thanks for the votes of confidence c.nick and E. As for colors that is being saved for last. Tanya has 4 Yo!'s that are going to the convention, which will be completed in October this year. What she has been doing lately in addition is customizing the Android toys. I have observing that her preference is to have phases now, where she will work on 2-3 at a time, all getting sculpted. After that phase she will work on painting them. I think it has to do with her being able to keep working on one while the paint on the other dries. So... as to multiple colors, she has never done a custom that is all one color. It will at the very least have highlights. At this point there are no color-pallets chosen. We will have to wait and see when the color muse speaks to her, which will be after getting at least this next one done. Yep there is a next one already, it is yet to be revealed what form it will take, it is in the experimentation stage still.

In the mean time here is how the RoboYo has come to be:

Yo!bot

Yes she is calling it a Yobot now... here is the progress. The others are coming along, but I got distracted by Grey's Anatomy premiere and now it is time for bed. Will update more later on.

Goodnight.

Picard just needs glazing

meanwhile a bag protects the paint while she works on the other figurines

Devil has a black base-coat on. Cylon has not had any progress yet.

So these are getting knocked out. Hopefully they will be done soon. She is glazing the Yobot today.
