I've been a member for awhile but i've never used the forum. I actually have some questions... I've had a major artist's block, i'm guessing with all the stuff thats been happening in my life, and was wondering how some of you overcome the Artist Block OF DEATH  ?

Thanks

I smear paint. I cut canvases (not my artwork, but my stash of prestretched, undercoated ones). I throw a rage. I hurl paint onto the walls and windows, even the ceiling. I
eak things. And when I'm exhausted, the art is there, back again. Then I paint out my emotions -- again, usually raw emotion. And that gets the ball rolling.

Not much help, huh?

Serap, The artist block of death. Well, I,ve never really understood what artist block ment. I,ve been doing metal for 30 years. And there,s two ways to approch the work. One is just pick up pieces of scrap metal and start putting them together. And then kind of figure out what I,m doing as I move along. The other is to kind of have an idea of what I want to build. What kind of metal and welding to use. What time it might take. Ofcourse all work seems to change as it gos. Takes on a life of it,s own. I,ve done a little bit of painting. With that work I never think at all what I want to paint. I just start painting the surface. When I,ve heard that said from time to time ( artist block) I would think that maybe the person has an issue with perhaps the market. Selling ones art work is an important issue. It was with me for a lot of years. If that is the case with you. Then you are going though what we all go though from time to time. You wiill get by it. Now the artist block of death issue. With me for the last 10 years or so. I will worry about not finshing a work. That I will die and leave it undone. My last sculpture work. "Cold wind two" In the last few weeks I work on it I did,nt think I would live long enought to finsh it. I can see if someone would feel that way before they start a work. That would indeed make them not want to start at all. Perhaps that is your issue. Any of us can drop over at any time. A lot of people go to bed at night. And never get up. A lot of people leave thier homes every morning and never come back. Thier a 1000 ways death can come. We can be young or old. Rich or poor. We can feel well or feel sick. If there is one thing in this world we can,t deal with. It,s death. Sme of us make a joke out of it. But I don,t care who we are. When it comes near. It is gave fear that will take over. But my friend. If we go though our life fearing and thinking about death. Then we have no life at all. We will not funktion. We will alrealy be dead. We will have life block. The day, hour, min. will come. That we die. But I say to you untill that point in time comes. Live.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

"The Block of Death" - pretty dramatic! If you are suffering from B.O.D.
go do something else. E
