The Queen of the house

Postby BYart » Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:01 pm

Just beginning this 20 x 16 Pastel of my Great Dane - Gena. She is a wonderful dog and has my heart completely.
It is a full body painting and I have included a close-up of the area I'm working on at present. I tend to like to fairly finish off one section before moving to another.

I'm painting her in her younger years, as she is quite gray now around the muzzle. But, who knows, I may decide to age her appropriately...we'll see.

This size is larger than I usually work in Pastel, but since I have a liesurely amount of time on my hands, I figured why not go bigger :D .
I am planning a background, though not sure just what it will be yet. Need to decide before I go any further. Maybe her laying in tall grass? Or a field of wildflowers?
Thoughts welcomed-

Thank you both!

I have dabbled a bit more on her shoulder/chest area whilst still wrestling with ideas for the BG :P .

Thank you Brian!
I've had to put this one on hold for awhile as I've undertaken quite a large project that will keep me busy for awhile.
I hope to at least do a bit on this one as I go.
Thanks for viewing, and sorry about update delay.

I haven't had the heart to finish this one. Sadly, Gena passed on May 3rd with bloat/torsion. It was an unexpected shock.
It's hard for me as she was my heart dog, such a gentle soul and I loved her dearly.
I had changed my idea of how i was going to paint the background. I had finally decided to paint her in a bed of Gladioulas. She once "helped" me with my gardening by "moving some of them around". I had retitled the painting "The Gardener".
I thought it strange that whenever i would sit down to work on the piece, i always had a feeling of dread....now i know why.
Anyway, i miss her dearly, the painting is further along than my last post, yet still unfinished. Not sure when i will feel like finishing it, hopefully one day.
