First trial with my watercolor pencils..... any comments?

This is very good for your first attempt. I have never actually used water color pencils before, but I can imagine it is significantly more difficult than regular watercolor... especially if that's all you're used to using.. good job though- nice colors. It's not about what you use, because a good artist can make any medium (no matter how cheap) work.

I think it's beautiful. I'm no professional artist, but personally, I would say this is of high quality. The coloration and pose are very realistic, as is the perspective. Though the bird is stationary, it still feels alive.

I have only used watercolor pencils once, and they were very, very different from what I was expecting. I like what you were able to achieve on your first try, and I am certain that as you become comfortable with the medium you'll be able to create truly fantastic pieces.

I think this is a very good start. And definitely, if a new medium for you. Keep it up. Have you attempted to blend both with Water, as well as with the White only? I often use all of my pigment colors first, then use the white to blend them... I had not good experiences with wetting the colors after application, but rather, dip the pencil in water first before using, worked best. Experiment though, you will find what you like. I definitely over the years have found I prefer the Watercolor pencil to the standard Color Pencil now but it took a while to really figure out what worked best. Have fun with it!
