Does your finished artwork look familiar

Postby sagegale » Mon May 21, 2012 10:25 pm

There have been a couple of times when I am done with a piece and when I come back to look at it - it looks familiar
With all the art I have looked at over the years how do you know if your mind has done a memory trick and this is something you've seen????? It's weird and I suppose to a certain degree there are always components of someone elses art but does this happen to anyone else?????

Is it just that you have been so involved with creating it that it looks familiar???

I know what you mean. We are all influenced by other art and have probably all subconsciously used elements of that art in our own work. There's just so much out there that we've seen. It would be near impossible hard to absolutley unique.

If your driving a car. And the person in front of you moves a little. Like perhaps trying to miss somthing in the road. you will most lightly do the same thing. And the person behind you will do the same thing also. If you build a clubhouse for your kids in the backyard. A few days later. Your see another being built. LOL. Remember the movie Jaws. When one person went in the water. Soon a few more went in. And just as soon they all were in the water.
But ofcourse, When the shark showed up. They all came out together. Real Fast.LOL.
Well, course, thiers always one that don,t come out.
And you know, I had'nt taken a bath in 35 years.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

Most ideas a person has are a recombination of other things they have seen and heard in the past. I've noticed the same thing when I've drawn something. If I really sit back and look at it. I can trace back through my mind where all the elements have come from.
