Opinions for a friend

Postby Cancer » Sat Jan 21, 2012 1:31 am

I am posting this on behalf of a friend, with his permission. He started painting about 5 years ago and would like to know what you think about his paintings. All comments would be appreciated

This is great wild life paintings.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

No question these are spectacular.
My only critique would be on the first one because the head looks strangely forced on the body. But I don't know what these creatures look like in real life. Seeing the level of perfection of the others my guess is it's right on and maybe just a funny angle.
Tell your friend he is amazing and he should show his work!

Yeah, these are pretty incredible pieces. The care he's put into every detail is evident! The eyes on the last painting really got me. I think often the eyes (animal or human) are the sticking point because that's where one can feel the presence of the creature, and it's so difficult to capture that essence on paper. He did a fantastic job.

May I ask what he uses to paint with? These look so soft and pastel-like.

I'm finding it hard to believe that this person has been painting for such a short time. I agree that something is amiss in the first one. The head doesn't quite look like a cat's head. And yet the painting itself is still incredibly well done. Beautiful.
Tell him that we don't know him so we aren't worrying about hurting his feelings!! lol! And we still think they are terrific.
And yes, I would also like to know the medium.
