Thank you so much!! I use Acrylic, and I've just started to use retarter medium with acrylic and a gloss cover over the painting.

Hi Sara, I'd just like to add that you made a good choice entering "Audrey" in the contest which tells me you know which way to go. For me the other portraits capture a fleeting moment,which is fine, but if one can portray the essence of a person, the character, it will give the portrait a timeless presence, which you achieved in "Audrey".

There is not thing I see off with any of these they are very well done. The backgroudn on the tabby cat pulls my eye away from the cat, but you may have intended that. I woudl soften it a bit more the redue the saturation

Scale, detail, lighting, and shadow all very well done. I am amazed when I see such softness and depth with acrylics, when it is used right. So how do you get them to look like this. what mediums do you use with them? Any glazes, retarder I see you already said. but what else?

Any advice for oil painters going to acrylics? I started out with acrylics but coudln't get the effect I wanted with them so went to Water mixable oils, and will be giving acrylics another chance.

thank you for your comments! with my cat painting, I feel the back ground makes the cat jump out at you. kinda 3d. with most of them I didnt use any mediums, i just did start with retarder and glaze. I really dont know how i do it, I've always used acrylics. I find it easier to blend colors, I think oils are really hard to use.

Winsor & Newton Artisian Water Mixable oils are easy to use, a little different than oils, and acrylics. I love them.
