Portrait from a beginner - second attempt

Postby keiko3728 » Mon Aug 03, 2009 3:31 pm

This is my second attempt at a portrait. I have done it in pastel on velours paper. The subject is my husband. Any comments and criticisms are most welcome!
Thanks, Keiko

Hi Keiko
Second attempt? Wow! of him or in general for portraits? You've done great girl even if your not a beginner.

I like your use of various colors in the skin tone. Great job on the proportions and the facial hair came out looking great! What kind of pastels did you use? Pencil or stick or both?

Looking forward to seeing more of your work,

Juliep

Hi Julie,
Thanks for your nice comments. This was the second portrait that I have done seriously and actually finished! I used pastel sticks and pastel pencils.

I am now planning my next drawing but am not sure who to do. I am fascinated by the human face but have to find another willing subject.
Thanks, Keiko

Hi V.S.L

Thanks very much for your comment. Actually, I really enjoy drawing eyes. They are the most interesting and expressive part of the human face, I think.

Keiko,
You have definitely been given a gift!
The eyes are a window to the soul...and you have certainly captured that in BOTH portraits I've seen here.
You got game girl!

Good job!

Hi Rich,

Thanks for another great comment. That was a real compliment and has inspired me to continue drawing with more confidence. I know what you mean about eyes being windows to the soul, I really believe that too. Thanks again.
