Payette Lake

Postby rrsum » Sun Jul 19, 2009 10:01 pm

Payette Lake near McCall, ID is surrounded by beautiful and isolated areas. Wife and I drove around the shoreline yesterday, stopping several times to take photos. I'm going to do a series of paintings from around the lake for the gallery in McCall. This is the first one.

Beautifully done, this painting is tranquil and the flowers in the corner add just the right touch of color. How long did it take you to paint this beautiful landscape? Have you ever put a painting from the start into the works in progress forum? It would be nice if you took at least 4 pictures during your work just to give us beginners an ideal how to organize our painting progress. You wouldn't have to explain any thing unless you wanted to, a picture is worth a thousand words May be if you haven't would you consider it? You are a talented painter.

Hey Rich,
I would definitely love to have my name on the bottom of this one.
This is a really an exceptional landscape, though a large bull moose, back left corner or right midground, peaking his massive head out would be a front cover for any international outdoor hunting magazine.
Your gallery “McCall” will love this painting as it should sell very quickly.

DeVonna,
Thank you for your comments. This painting took me about 5-6 hours from start to finish. It's flattering that you would ask me to do a photo/tutorial. I currently have one on the easel, but it's too far along at this point to do that. I've had a couple of other requests for something similar, so maybe I can do that on the next one.

Just want to go on record that there are a LOT of people in this community that are probably much more qualified to do that than I. (Patrick, Brian, Al, Erika, Joe and several others).

Barb,
Thank you my friend. I humbled by your comments.

Al,
Thanks
other! It's been many of your tips and thoughts that have helped me improve. Your work inspires me to raise my own bar.

I like the thought about adding the moose...so...

JUST FOR YOU AL! See below!

Hi rrsum,

This painting makes me want to go there. Beautiful, love the colors. I thought it was oils and just realized you said it was acrylic. Great blending, do you use a medium to blend it so evening?

Like Bullwinkle btw. Are there real moose in those woods? I live a few hours south of some seriously beautiful country in Wawa Ontario with lakes similar to the one you painted. They say to be cautious of the moose but I've never seen any in all the years we've been going there.

Are you going to share the rest you plan on painting? That would be a real treat.

Demac, thank you. Very glad you like!

Julie, thank you as well. I just use the same technique to blend my acrylics as I do my oils. I just work faster and use white gesso much the same as liquid white when I do oils. I do all the blending on the canvas for the sky and blocking in the underpainting.

Yes, there are real moose in that area but they usually don't show up until late fall and leave in early spring. Too many tourists (or people like me showing up with cameras  ).

Yes, I'll post more here as I finish them. Glad you like!

Hi Rich,

I must be very busy with my works, that I missed this beautiful piece of yours. Your moose made me laugh too.

You are master in my eyes.
