A horse is a horse....

Postby krysta11 » Tue Jun 02, 2009 1:11 am

Hello everyone,

I was away from the computer for a few days because I have an eye infection. Only one is working at the moment.
I am not allowed to paint for awhile but I did paint anyway. :P

Having only one eye good I decided to paint a huge horse on a big canvas to see details better.

I started to love horses. Beautiful , beautiful.....
I hope you will like my horse.

Thank you for comments.

Hi Barb,

Thank God it is not that serious I thought in first when I found out in the morning that my eye is bleeding from inside. Very scary. Thank God I took antibiotic in time. Now my eye is better.
OXOXOX

Very nice feel to this. I can sense the freedom and wildness of the subject. I don't feel the ocean and the sky should have the same color. Maybe a slight differentiation would make a big difference. This looks like a place that I would like to be...

Thank you Michael very much. Do you think adding a bit purple to the sky would change the painting to better? I'll try to do something with the sky.
Thanks a lot M. for your help.

Ok Michael.

I'll do it. I also think there is too much blue in my painting. It is was the first time I painted big water and need to lesrn a bit more about ocean scape.
Thank you M. for good suggestion.

Oh Krysta! It's beautiful! I think it is wonderful that you are deciding to paint some horses! They are a wonderful animal, full of energy and spirit, and you have captured those aspects in your painting!
I would agree with Michael about the aqua/green wash, and if you decide to do that I think it will add another dimension to the water...giving more depth.
Can't wait to see any changes! Great job K!

Good job, Krysta! Just wondering, have you used a photo for the horse? Looking forward to see how it will look with the changes.

Hello Barb,

Never paint horses with one eye only,

  because your horse will tell you off like mine. When I did some changes to the ocean, thanks of Michael, I looked at my painting and noticed, that my horse looks like a donkey. Oh, Gosh! Something was not right with the head and neck.
I am sure , that after corrections my horse is a horse , not a donkey.

Barb, I pay a homage to all artists who paint animals. It is really very difficult theme. I must learn how to paint horses and doggies. I must. When I painted the first horse( black) , it wasn't that hard but to paint this color horse was very difficult for me.

Thank you B. for your great comment.

Krysta;

This in only your second horse, so how can you expect to get the proportions and muscles down correctly? I think you did a good job at it, the coat color you selected is my favorite (Buckskin).

If you would like to start painting horses, study up on horse anatomy or find a proportion chart I'm sure you can find the reference material on the internet.

It takes time to learn how to draw a horse, there are many muscles involved which stretch or bulge with different movement or poses, each
eed is also built different.

Best of luck you!

Dear Karen,

I know exactly what you mean. Oh , darling I decided to redo my horse.
Barb gave me a lot of tips and I am sure I'll be able one day to do better job on horses.

Thank you Karen for your interest and help.

I would like to apologize to all of you for placing my horse in a wrong thread.

I was wrong.

Krysta,
You didn't do anything wrong? I look forward to the changes if you decide to do so. Please don't feel like you shouldn't have posted...how else are we to learn?

I've posted paintings in this thread, and then after getting critiques and advice have posted what I had utilized as changes. So, I don't "think" that was wrong...if so..then you aren't alone in making that mistake. :?

And please don't feel like you have to use my suggestions, they are just suggestions...it is still your painting and you should paint it as it suits YOU! :)
