Eureka! abstract acrylic (re-posted)

Postby Menolly » Sun Mar 22, 2009 7:56 pm

Hey, y'all. I posted this painting a little while ago, but the picture was terribly blurry and a big piece was cropped out. Now that I have a MUCH better picture of it, I thought it might be good to post it again so people could see the whole image with all its detail.
(also, I used a lot of unorthodox tools to make it - I thought people might have fun trying to guess what I used - if that's silly, just ignore me)

It's wonderful! Love the colors! It has an underwater feel(excepting what i think is a bird). Would love to know what tools you use!

Menolly.... it appears to me that you might have done an underpainting to begin with, then applied a transparent or slightly semi-opaque glazing over the entire painting using a notched adhesive trowel. Close?

Be well... Bruce

Yes, close, except I did the scraping twice, once through a single thick layer of blue to create an overall texture, and a second time after I realized the texture had started to disappear under subsequent layers. I did the scraping with a plastic butter knife.

Feral Child: actually, I tried a comb first, but it scraped off too much. Good guess.

Thanks Krysta and WP! This is one of a few pieces I'm gathering up to take to the student art show at my university; here's hoping the judges like it as much as you do!
