Windows and doors

Postby beakerless » Sun Aug 17, 2008 12:09 pm

This is a preliminary drawing for a series I am conseptualizing using windows and doors. The figure is holding herself in a corner and I intend to write on some of the wall tiles...........rape........lonliness........secrets

and then in the series will also be windows and doors with words like

hope.........abundance.............compassion

the key is all the doors and windows will be closed

I do see the perspective is off on the viewers right side of the drawing. I may take the tiling out and just do a wall depending on what mixed media I decide to work in on this piece. If not I will fix the perspective.

Conceptually very strong.. but you might pull back a bit to allow room for your messages... but still close enough to retain the claustrophobic feeling. You might even consider blind-folding the figure?

Looking forward to seeing your progress... be well.

Bruce

just had a flash of
illiance/stupidity?...... maybe pull WAY BACK and have the walls/doors/windows etc. totally out of proportion to the figure... figure being too small to reach door knob/windows etc. . Just my weirdness coming through :D

I kind of like the tiles sort of like the boxes one puts painful things into in the mind. Maybe I need to make the tiles less regimented. I will try a few options during the day and see what I come up with. The only reason I don't want to blindfold the image is that I want the viewer to understand that she sees the words every minute of every day even though she hides her eyes.

NO Bruce thats an excellent suggestion and I was playing with that idea. IE the boxes instead of regimented tiles on the wall. The windows and doors in different sizes is a really good idea I have dozens of pictures of different styles of windows and doors. If I do this as a mixed media piece and try new mediums this could get very interesting.

Please everyone input input input I am
eaking new ground and hopefully some barriers here.

I had thought about putting doors and windows on seperate canvas as in side pieces etc but I don't know maybe this one needs to go on a large board of some kind. AAAHHHH money is always such a problem. Ok off to look for some tutorials on different mediums.

Distorted perspective would enforce the message in this case IMO.

Read only the initial thread opener, saw the sketch, and think you've got something very good as a project concept here!!!

You can feel the anquish

Postby Mike51 » Mon Aug 18, 2008 9:15 am

You did a great job of conveying the pain and anquish with out even showing the subjects face. I see that female figure in the shower as a perging of emotion. Very strong almost an intrusion. Am I reading it right?

You mentioned mixed media... have you ever thought of this as an installation type thing. For example using a manequin or sculpted figure and actual doors/windows etc. and placing them into a corner space. That could be a pivotal piece for a lot of spin-offs. I'm so weird sometimes it skeeeeers me

be well... Bruce

One may think so, but one can't wash it away.

Oooooh; I agree. And "time heals all wounds" is BS too. It appears we must bear our scars as best we can, and try not to dwell on them, as tends to drain our energy for living today. There are plenty of TODAY issues to address. Didn't intend to editorialize.

I like your idea and you did a good job so far conveying the message. When can we see more? Looks very good.

Brian I have been providing home day care for my 4 month old grandson full time the last six weeks or so. During July and August I also had my 5 year old grandson until he started school. Now the last week I have had a 14 month old and the 4 month old. I can afford art supplies now but it might be a few weeks before I get back to the project. I need to
owse the junk stores on the weekends for awhile to see what I find. I have a couple ideas but not sure how they will work out. I will get back here in a week or two and start catching up on the posts too.

krystal the babies are so good for me. Yes I am tired at night but I am keeping to a better schedule and more importantly I love the little ones. I have been snapping pictures like a maniac with my digital camera for the mommies and future paintings. My grandson is beautiful with mocha skin and big almond shaped eyes. Little Bri is blonde with those light blue eyes rimmed in black. She has long dark lashes and both their smiles could melt the coldest heart. Once I get more accustomed to this and get my art supplies built up I will start painting on the weekends. OK it's time to pick up the toys, run the vacum cleaner, run out to the store and then get dinner. By then I should be about ready for sleeping.
