This still life was done years ago, when I first retreated to the small town my Mom lived in. Where I was, I had few possessions but I needed something to paint, so I put stuff onto a chair and began. The face in the picture is my Mom in the 1940's. For those who are learning and teaching themselves, I suggest still life as a good way to get in touch with seeing and rendering. It is a nice feeling when that cup or apple in front of you begins to appear on your canvas/paper. Working from life has no replacement. It teaches well!
