Art Critic

I know there are some rotten apples on every apple tree, including the apple tree of art critics.
This quick sketch helped me to get the bad taste, of rotten apple, out of my mouth (psyche).
Now, whenever I come across a bad apple, I take another look at this sketch, and slowly my resentment gets replaced with sorrow - for the art critic.

What the sketch symbolizes to me:

1. The art critic portrayed is androgynous (male/female).
2. Naked, exposing their belief systems.
3. Hair and mustache of brain washing (Hitler Youthism).
4. Ears and background is of evil, and coming from a dark place.
5. Eyes: open with rage, and green from jealousy.
6. Mouth of despised anger.
7. Nose of snobbery and greed.
8. The burning of self-sabotage, especially of their own creativity.
9. The empty space of heartlessness.
10. Hand over stomach portrays critical feelings.

BTW, I may be a naked, androgynous snob but I am never Greedy.

Ha ha E, you may be a sweet and ripe apple, but you are far from being rotten.

The worst apple I tasted came from my drunk uncle. At the time, I was too young and naive to believe that adults could be wrong.
Another rotten apple came from a highly respected art society. They did not want to see any of my art until I had completed an art course by them. Because I would not paint in the style the instructor wanted me too, I was disgraced from the society after the first lesson.
I am sure every artist has tasted a rotten apple from the art critic tree.

Thanks, Peter! It took me years of looking at myself and others to realize
that people criticize for so many different reasons. Thankfully and conversely, my mother supported
my art from day one. It was one of the few things she did right, lemme tell you.
But that could have hurt me, as well.
Today, I paint what I want, to the detriment of my wallet and the understanding of others, LOL!
As far as an art societal clique goes, we have a similar racket down here in good ol' Georgia, USA.
It's called SCAD - the Savannah College of Art and Design. The kid gets in and begins an overly rugged
curriculum, having to crank out work like sausage... . The surrounding area galleries immediately open
their doors to SCAD graduates and then, we get to see what I call SCAD-work. Everything is cool, hip and boring.
It IS pretty Fascist! E

Thanks Elizabeth, I hear (read) you.
It is as if the art society people fear having someone new, with different ideas and style, taking the limelight away from them.
I have a lot of trouble with conformity, another type of rotten apple, especially when it restricts my personal choices and growth.

Your idea really touches me . It is courageous, too. I am at the beginning of my creative journey, still. And I am totaly new to show my work to foreign people/other people than relatives. I am afraid it will not be taken serious. But more afraid I am of fashistic view on my "style" (still a beginner there is no real style, but several people told me already it seems I develop a style ). But I want to say that if not everybody understands your paintings they are not necesserely bad paintings or bad ideas. You can either develop or stay proud of yourself. But easy to say. Easy words. We need that somebody is interested in our paintings. We need this I guess. Thank you so much!

Unusual but great!
For my supplies, I use Sketchbook, watercolor field kit, water bottle, 1/2 cut water bottle for a water well, a few brushes, pencil, and a micron pen.
I love sketching anything in nature, either landscapes, wildlife, or up close botanical. As many of you know, sketching releases stress and it’s fun to get away from society and hang out in the woods! When I’m busy and cannot hike or sketch for weeks at a time, it really gets to me.
