Qusetion about licensing

Postby artlover1 » Fri Mar 20, 2009 3:52 pm

I dont know if i am in the right area for this, but wasn't sure where to post this. I have a painting i did from a photo i found on the web. I want to enter it into the Artist Magazine art competition. The rules say the art must be original, conceived and created by the enterant. Also the photo
I did the work from is under a Creative Commons License. It said: This License is retired. Do no use for new works. Does any one know exactly what that means? The license also says Free to Share: to copy, distribute and transmit the work. To Remix: to daapt the work. Also says may
not use for comercial purposes. I am confused by all this. I was hoping
someone could explain to me if i can put this painting into the contest with out infringing on the license. Thanks for your help.

I did a little looking around and it turns out Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides free licenses to artists, authors, etc. You should be able to get the necessasry info about the license in question from there. Here's the link to their FAQ page:
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Frequen ... _of_law.3F

Hope that helps!
