Keeping acrylic paints?

Postby satanfriendly » Sun Nov 08, 2015 10:38 am

Nearing the completion of an on-going piece and I need to mix quite a large quantity of violet and white. Once mixed I don't want to use it all in one go, but need to return to complete. I don't want to try re-mixing another batch so to maintain the consistency in the shade. There will probably be several hours between uses.

I do use retarding gel occasionally, but it is only good for a few hours at the best. Or so I find

Any tips as to how I can store the paint in between and prevent it drying out? Airtight containers, jars, wet paper etc etc?

Any experience or assistance will be most appreciated

Sure. Just find an airtight container that can be easily opened and closed. I like the larger plastic microwave containers for that.
They are wide open enough for proper mixing and once you get enough of that color, just snap the lid shut.

Thank you very much for the reply.

After years of working with acrylics it is one thing I never thought of.

Certainly not food made from acrylic paints! God it tastes foul. I usually cook on the principle of 'eat now, not later'

I have actually completed the painting in mention and hopefully a photo session tomorrow. Also looks like I have found a place who look interested in a solo exhibition sometime around April next year, so very pleased.
