Kiss with Marilyn Monroe

Postby Gosia » Wed May 21, 2014 2:17 pm

This is drawing on which I am working in last days simulaneously with "Lost in the Water". If this drawing will work out nicely it will be present for my cousins's and his faincee wedding. I cannot attend this wedding because of staying abroad, but at least I can draw them picture that they wished to get from me. It's long story why it is Marylin Monroe. I would appreaciate all your comments! :-)

I think your present to the newlyweds will be well-received and appreciated.
Marilyn is looking good but take her nose and give it a slight white tilt from the
round of her nostril to the tip of her nose. With her cheek make a grey triangle where
the tip almost meets her nostril round. Behind they grey triangle make a lighter grey
swoosh and then have the rest of her cheek fan out into white. Naturally, you'll
want to do some blending with your fingertip or eraser, but you get the general idea, here.
I've attached a visual example. Your base imagery should be a series of swooshes
and swirls, depending on what style you choose. Hope this helps! :D

Wow, Girl - you are really coming along with the highlighting and shading! I'd like you to plump up
her lips a bit more and round very the tip of her nose JUst a little. Also, round the grey shadow of her
cheek a tad more. Then I'll help you with her hair - she's looking good now and will look even better
when we're done. E

Thanks a lot! I will make these changes with lips, cheek and nose. It will be problem with her hair, because I made these strong lines that you can see on her hair with a pencil that I cannot erase (only I can make it a little bit lighter). I think that it was carbon pencil - I was trying out different kinds of pencils that were new to me. Now I think that it would be better without these lines - just making little swooshes, swirls and circles like with the shading on her face....

Looking good, how about a flower pattern on the wall and then invert it on their clothes. It's just because that rose seems really powerful right now as it is so I prob would tend to feed off of something like that. Good idea or bad idea E?

I made these small changes (lips, nose), but maybe chick should be rounded more - I can make it next time :-)

Thank you Collin for advice, however I don't want to make flower pattern. I think that it would be too much for this picture and also I cannot make pattern on their black clothes (because I cannot erase it). I wanted this rose to be powerful as it is symbol of love and passion - maybe it is a little bit too powerful :-D
However, I know that not everyone would like it and there is a problem that I want to give it for a present.... :-/
At first, I wanted to make it not controvential - just in grey scale, but I really don't like to draw pictures without colors and I had to make it my own way and add some colors... :-)

This looks fine - you've learned a lot. I think your cousin and bride-to-be
will appreciate the sentimental value and she DOES look like Marilyn! E

The wedding was on Saturday, so I send them already picture of drawing in email (I will bring them original in the suitcase in less than 3 weeks :-)) And they like it a lot (or at least are very very nice to me ;-)) and want to hang it in the bedroom (bedroom drawing again ;-)).
I also feel that I learned a lot! Thank you!
