The Flow of Water

Postby T.Richmond » Mon Feb 18, 2013 3:08 pm

Well I had a few hours to spare today so I discided to try my hands a creating a waterfall , its probably not the most magestic waterfall out there though.
There are a few things that need to be fixed , like the top boulder on the left but I am not sure weather I should add in twinkling stars with consellation patters. Oh and dont mind the vibrant right side , the sun felt like being a nuisance .

Tyler, your water is delightful! A really nice
blend of blues, blue-whites with a perfect waterfall motion.
I personally would love to see a few stars or a
constellation - oooh, just saw the rocks - they look good, too!
Thanks, E

Very convincing waterfall. A few stars etc would be a nice addition.

Thank you , I didnt think the waterfall was very good . Just because I couldnt get the flow like I wanted it to be , before I started on it, the canvas was completely black with acrylic and had put a thin layer of oil on it so the paint would glide smoothly. Unfortunately I waited alittle too long and the oil had started to dry before I created the waterfall so I had to try a new technique I thought of to get the different light levels, lesson learned I suppose .

As for the stars , I have heard of a technique where you would load up a brush a pull back the bristles to fling specks of paint at the canvas to create a cluster of random stars . It seems alittle to messy to do it that way , I like to be precise . Any thoughts on how I could go about creating the twinkle effect ?

I did not expect to finish so much of it at one time , I can lose myself when paint somtimes .

But im glad you two like it .

I have used the technique of pulling back the loaded brush to produce stars. It's a simple method and very effective.

Check out my oil 'Inspiriting Firmament' please and you will see an example.

Uh-huh - a fine point brush and don't load it up too much, in my book. E

This is a super cool painting... love the planes that the water is traveling on... great depiction of movement and gravity
