working on depth of color

im trying to have the background all washed out and faded because its so cloudy, but i wish i had a little more detail...any ideas..tips..?

Just a question... are you spraying a fixative as you go?

It was a technique my Grandmother shared with me long ago, that I have found works when trying to deepen the colors.
