first sculpture - sad puppy

Postby Menolly » Wed Oct 07, 2009 5:47 pm

Hello! Been a while since I was able to post something of my own. This is my first project for my introduction to sculpture class. The them was loss/desire and we were supposed to use the book form as a foundation for the piece - symbol for a story to tell, I guess. Anyhow, this is one of two castings I took. I'll be refining a few details, particularly around the paws, and painting or staining it when I have some time free.
In case you're wondering, I studied photos of my
other's dog to get the sculpture to look right.
Let me know what you think!

Nice start, Menolly. Is the dog holding a stick or the page of the book? If the page, you get bonus points. :)
I would work on the eyes, to give more expression, life. Even if you leave them blank, try to make them more round if it's still possible. You did a good job on the paws. Keep them coming. :)

Erika: Yes, it is the page of a book. There are a lot of refinements planned, when I have time to do a little scraping and whittling. I'll post another picture with better lighting, maybe a side view. There are some details being drowned out.

I like it!

Looks like the pup is coming out of the story book! Can't wait to see it finished.
