What i'm working on at present.
I long for the day to be able to be back to the area this scene represents to me.
Still much to do...but thought I would show how it is progressing. Sorry for the glare on the right side in trees, will get better pic in daylight.
As usual, from my memory/imagination...so things get painted as i "see" them appear!
I plan on adding a cougar to foreground rock next.

Barb,

Your water is fantastic!!! You did a great job on it so far, don't play around with it any more, I like the reflections of the trees.

The water coming down the mountain, is it a stream or waterfall? Guess you are still working on it . Can't wait to see what you do with it. You are becoming quite a landscape artist, isn't it great how scenes pop out of your head and onto paper or canvas?

You improve each time you pick up a
ush, keep going.

At the end of the summer season I'm going to get some painting supplies and do a painting. I have several scenes in my head just waiting to come out.

Sorry, got the angle of camera crooked. Did a little more on the middleground detail, on
ush and trees. Deepened the crevice where the water flows from Mt. Lots more to do and I'm thinking of how to do the cougar...that will come tomorrow. Probably lying down, enjoying his domain!

Thanks again Karen.
Did more work on tonal values in the forest, giving more depth and detail. Adjusted some of the values in the Mt. color, am happier now.
lightly sketched in the cougar, using a watercolor pencil(this painting is in acrylic BTW).
Will now concentrate on foreground. Trees to left in foreground will "grow" a bit  , and of course cougar will be started as well.
Colors in foreground will be adjusted as i go along.
Thanks for viewing!

Not sure whether I like it or not...

The majority of the landscape is too 'still' yet the waterfall 'splash'...the focal paint is not really a 'great' focal point.

The scenery is lovely and relaxing and very peaceful to look at the glory of God's great creativity...but the water splash...

Confuses me!

Well now, I'm confused! I have NO idea what you mean Nigel.
Any landscape will be "still". I don't know what You mean by "great'.
But, thanks for viewing.
Painting is unfinished as it is a WIP.

Oh ignore him....

I love the changes, have you thought of putting another cougar drinking from the water or just walking down or a deer etc between the trees and stream on the left, but something is missing on that bare patch of land, mind you it does help
ew up the imagination

I like where you have put the lazy cougar. I am completely enjoying your progress

Keep going...... :D

Barb,

A "small" suggestion, take out some of the droplets from the waterfall and you can also make the water drop more vertical "straight up and down" then the splash will be correct. Maybe throw in a boulder for the water to hit to cause the splash.

Perhaps this is what is confusing neogenius.

Looking forward to your cougar!

Thanks Deanne! I am working on the foreground, but I have changed the perspective a bit. Will post more as i complete the next stage, which at the moment is the cougar...giving me grief! :? Your suggestions are wonderful though, and I appreciate your keeping up with the progress on this, THANKS!

Thank you Karen! I agree with the droplets needing to be more vertical and will fix. I did the droplets, if anyone is interested...using a tooth
ush spattering, so will need to correct excess droplets as well.

That's OK Nigel! I had wondered if you had read my post as to what I was doing in my last post. No Worries!
The cougar will become the focal point, at least that is what I believe at this point! The waterfall, I believe, will then draw eye back and up. Which I'm worried that the eye will then go off of the painting? Need to
ing it back down perhaps? Don't know for sure, as I am still learning about composition and flow of a painting...so any help in those areas with respect to this painting is appreciated.
Thanks all for continued viewing!

Barb,

I didn't mean to make the droplets more vertical, but the water drop off. Make it look like it's falling straight down. Hope you don't mind but I drew a very quick small example that may or may not help. It's just a suggestion, but this baby is yours.

Don't make any changes to your lake entry, I think it looks very good, just remove some of the splatter further past the foliage.

As your water comes down the long hill, it will pick up speed and yes it WILL cause a large splash.

Nice quick sketch Karen!
My hope in this painting is to show the water as it comes down a deep crevice erroded into the Mt. At least that is my intent...lol! So...as it nears the ground...it falls off flowing over, again, a creviced area in the rock. I'll see if I can figure out how to cement that idea with a few more tweaks to the crevice.

Here is the latest...working on the cougar right now! :) I have changed the foreground to give it a bit of height, and the cougar a great vantage point. I like the scenic background as his backdrop. Darkened the water right behind cougar to give it more depth as now it is seen more from above than before. I also "grew" the trees at right foreground a bit...do they look tall enough given the cougar's size? Thanks!

Oh yes leave the trees on the right the way you have painted the perspective they are pretty good height

by the way he looks cool....lazing in his environment..

in darkening the water you have slightly messed with the sky, which now looks as if it needs more blue in it rather than cloudy...sorry

Will be back

Deanne

I like your crevice idea, I can see it coming into view just needs a little more definition. Your foreground is coming along nicely and the cougar looks very relaxed sunbathing on the boulder.

I think your sky is just fine, but put just a slight touch of darker blue in the corner to match your water.

The hillside has nice color, don't mess with it anymore, the water looks is fantastic so stop playing with it.

Looks like this one is coming to an end, concentrate on your big cat and boulders at this point, slightly define the crevice pop a few rocks in perhaps.

I think this piece is going to be my favorite of yours.
