Arroyo Dawn Flashflood

Postby CarlOwen » Mon Nov 02, 2015 12:38 pm

While trying to take a nap yesterday, several hundred of these types of images kept flooding into my mental vision as I lay there with my eyes closed. After almost an hour in this dream awake state I got up fixed six canvases and started painting. Thought I would share this process for some of those who are going through 'artist's block'. Well, today the site is not letting me upload any attachments, so I will try to do it with individual posts with the edit function. Comments, questions, opinions and critiques are of course welcome.

I consider this the beginning because I tighten each canvas with the canvas spreaders glued in place.
Next step is to lay in the background sky.
Then the cloud base. So far only the pallet knife has been used.

Man oh man, did something happen with painting number 5 yesterday. I will be taking a picture of it after the sun rises and posting it today. The painting seemed to just jump out and demand to be finished it's way. It is finished and according to how it told me. It is a major left turn from the plan. The other paintings are now speaking. There is no longer an Arroyo Dawn Flashflood collection. I don't know what this collection is going to be at this point in time.

I am now just along for the ride wondering where it is taking me. Such a thrill.

This painting has changed the whole concept and direction of the Arroyo Dawn Flashflood collection. I have no idea at this point what will happen next. Hope you enjoy this finished landscape.

Thank you Elizabeth. I think it is Richard's fault by allowing me to experiment with details like he does, the Mile 34 collection. And, Cristo's fault for helping me see abstract expressionism, the Let the Games Begin II challenge. Just joking of course. I have placed these three in the blue contest to see what happens.

Well just a heads up for anybody who might wonder why they can't find these paintings in the blue contest. I removed them as I removed the ones before them. I am not saying that I would win with any painting I enter in a contest here, but being a moderator, I can't but to feel that it does not meet my ethical standards to be both a winner and a moderator. In the last contest I left my paintings in the contest. I didn't win anything and am actually thankful for that. But, the leaving them in the contest has bothered me. I consider it a decision mistake. So, I fixed it with the blue contest and feel better about it. The finished paintings are here and in my profile page and gallery section if anyone is interested in seeing them.

The final three in this collection and a picture of the storm arriving. I share this because we are artists displaying in an artist's community. To me, a simple display of a work without comment or a willingness to engage in conversation is lacking in so many ways. It exhibits temerity, fear, self-doubt, and possibly arrogance. All of these reasons limit our ability to learn from each other thereby crushing our heart felt reasons for presenting our art in the first place. This site has been a gold mine of learning for me. I truly wish it has and is the same for other artists here. So, moving on. These are the presentations. I think the new title of the collection should be "Mountain Winter Arroyos" . What say you who are checking in here?

Carl,
These are filled with emotion and life that speaks volumes to anyone who will be fortunate to view them in person. What a treasure. I love the feeling like having the need to 'sway' to the waves current dashing this way and that, as I scrolled down from one painting to the next...
Truly Wonderful!

Good morning Jennifer. You honor me with your comments. Thank you. These represent my latest endeavor to paint the way you have described. It is very pleasing to me when someone sees it. I have no idea what will come next. But I know there will be more as I develop my skill with this technique and purpose.
