SORRY FOR MY ABSENCE!!

Postby xxbreezy » Thu Aug 20, 2009 3:24 pm

I'm sorry I haven't been around lately to support everyone's wonderful artwork. Life has been busy for me to the point where I haven't even had a chance to sketch. I've been wanting to try on my acrylics and see how they fit and did a few weeks back give it a try. However, I haven't been able to get back to it yet. I really miss everyone here and the wonderful interaction. My grandchildren will be going back to school next week so I will finally have tons of time to get caught up with all of you and my work as well. I didn't want you all to think I deserted you...lol!!! Hang in there and keep that beautiful artwork coming!!!

Hello XX, Hope to see some new work soon.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

Thanks to all of you for such great comments. School is back in session and finding some time to work on my first acrylic on canvas. I have to admit, its taking some time but getting a feel for them. I will post when its finished. I am only about half way thru as this is a rather larger than most painting for me. Good to be back finally!!

Hi Linda!

The same thing happens to all of us. Life gets into a fast pace with one thing or another and art is put on the back burner.

That happened to me during the month of July when I was moving my mother-in-law into a senior citizen's apartment. August wasn't any better, I've been doing home repairs and have had my nieces stay with me as their vacation. One girl would come up, go home, and another one would come up. The horses get groomed and ridden!

Life be hectic at times.

Hope to see some of your talented work soon.

Thanks so much and I am getting some time now to work on my painting. Just taking time to get it the way I want. First Acrylic painting for me and I do NOW FINALLY starting to get a feel for paint. All my work has been pastels so this is quite a change. Will post when its done.

I know what you mean by switching from pastels to paint!

I did the same switch about 4 weeks ago when I purchase some art supplies from a woman who's husband is deceased, they were his supplies.

You'll find that it's not much different than pastel, except you're using a
ush.

I prefer to use the oil paint, it doesn't dry as fast and I personally think blending is easier.

I'll use the acrylic when I want more texture or need fast drying time.

I'm still learning, and believe me I have a LOT to learn about painting. Haven't picked up a
ush in 30 years, I think it's coming back to me.

I had tried oils years ago and I pretty much don't have the patience for it. I totally love the look of an oil painting and "hats off" to anyone who can use them. I will still do my pastels but I just had this urge to give painting a try. I had a small craft business years ago and hand painted them all with regular craft paint and faired pretty well. I feel I can get a little more precise with the paints as pastels can be rather bulky and a little harder to achieve the small detail even with pastel pencils but I love them anyway!!!!

I love pastels also!

You can do some amazing things with them. I have hard pastels, soft, soft pencils, and oil pastels. Oil pastels can be melted with thinner to give the watercolor effect.

When a pastel is completed, it looks like a painting. People who look at it can't believe it's done with "chalk" material.

Many people can't get the hang of pastels. So I guess we're lucky.
