I don't know the actor, but I recognize it!, looks great your work.
I'm not an expert, but maybe the suggestion of Cristo comes from contrast between subject and background? I usually center my effort in the subject and don't bother about the background, but I've seen people to give more impact working as well on the shades/lights on the background.
