Animal Planet - Results Are In

Postby Singular » Tue Aug 14, 2007 11:08 pm

This was our closest contest so far. All of the finalists were great. But unfortunately, there can be only one winner.

Congratulations to AGillustration for a wonderfully done work. I would also like to mention our second place finisher. Congrats to Jmulcahy for creating a beautiful piece of art. Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a great contest with great art.

all the best,
Joe

This was my first time entering the contest. I understand that the final decision is only partially influenced by the popular vote during the final voting stage. What I don't understand is the selection process for the finalists. I guess I thought that the preliminary voting/ranking was for the purpose of choosing the finalists, but apparently that is incorrect, as one of my entries was the third highest ranked, another the fifth - yet neither are among the finalists.

Please confirm, as it is unclear to me what the purpose of the preliminary voting is.

Thanks!

Hello there,
The preliminary rating scale is only used as a tool to help us choose finalists. It is too unreliable to use as the final decision because of spam bots and multiple votes. That is why we are no longer using it in the preliminary voting stage. Your image that is ranked 5th overall was one of the borderline images that was not chosen because we had to narrow the finalists down to 15. It was a very tough decision. Your work is very good. You should be proud of your accomplishments and I hope you continue to enter the contests.

all the best,
Joe

Thank you very much for the encouraging words. Yes, I have already entered the architecture contest with an oil painting and will likely enter with some photos.

So, really, the public ranking/preliminary voting is actually irrelevant to the contest results.

Im glad I understand now.

You are welcome... and yes.

By the way, I just saw your image in the Architecture contest. Extremely well done.

Each one of the finalists are fantastic. Extremely hard choice, no B.S.

Thanks again for the comments.

I think I need to clarify something - I was not complaining in anyway about the choice for the finalists. I was merely clarifying my understanding of how the contest is run, as this was my first time to enter. I agree that all of the finalists are excellent, and I wouldn't want to have to choose only 15 of all the entries - I don't mean to sound as if I am in disagreement with any.

I look forward to continuing to participate in this site.

No clarification necessary. I could tell by the tone of your post that you were seeking explanation, not being argumentative.

all the best,
Joe

The popular vote is in. As soon as the ASC panel votes on their top 3, I will announce a winner.

all the best,
Joe

Congratulations, AG, you deserve it! Also to Jmulcahy for that wonderful,
imaginative cat and fish.
All the finalists created amazing pieces and my hat's off to you all. E
