My first impression is that this is very unfinished. The black lines are a little too heavy and look smudgy at the bottom. I recommend not using black when sketching. If you need to use black, incorporate that later.
Hey Joe, Thanks for the feedback, the thread title is also that of the work. I often sketch in black, using negative space to fill in the detail. I have just posted another in a similar style http://www.asingularcreation.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6580. Let me know what you think.
I agree, this one is a bit unfinished in appearance. I would suggest composing your work with a very light pencil, then refine with inks and paints if that is your medium of choice...
May your world be painted in the Brightest of colors!
Hey Jenn, thanks for the feedback. I am probably a bit backward because I dont do any precomposing with pencil or ink, I rarely even use brushes! It was just a quick ditty to put down my first impressions after meeting someone, therefore I probably see more than most in it. At the moment it is sitting on the stack for me to return to at some stage & reassess.
It's pretty simple, but I really like this a lot. It's one of those quick glance images that gives you a read of what it's about. if the intention to leave a lot of negative space is on purpose, then it speaks purposefully. If not, I think you could use up a little more room.
