This is a wip, so the fuzzy twine is not finalized, and the piece needs a base. I'm trying to decide on colour, I'd like to know which one do you prefer.

Erika I would say I prefer the second one. I like its pose more, although I am not sure if it is not because of the angle it is taken from. Also I prefer the colour of the second one, since I generaly prefer warmer colours. But then again colour serves for expressive purposes as well. What medium did you use if Imay ask?

Thanks Anelia and Mike. The first one is the latest version, I'm trying to decide whether it needs another thin wash of
own on top of this one or not.

Hahaha, Rich and Brian, there seems to be no agreement here. I compromised with a little of this and a little of that.

Anelia, forgot to tell the medium is paper mache.
Here's the finished work:

Erika, I seen this piece when you first posted it. But I wanted to see the finshed product before I conmented on it. I was hoping you would put it on a round stand. And you did. I was also hoping you would go with the
ownest color and you did. Other than those things. Their are two things about this piece that make it stand out and really work. One is the boots. That,t a nice touch. And all the attention to roundness thoughout the work. Give it that life like look. And give it the movement. This piece is a showcase of your hardwork and skills.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

WOW Erika the compromised version looks great-I like the base too. It is amazing how you get paper mashe to stand on one leg with high heels.

John: appreciate you comments, as always. Nice to know I used good judgement.

Anelia: that's the magic of paper mache. Its light weight allows for greater freedom in manipulation than clay. Slowly it has become my chosen medium.

Postby nigelartist » Mon Mar 22, 2010 5:27 pm

Hi Erika

Beautiful, quality works. Very graceful. Has the grace of a ballerina and so reminds me of the Darcey Bussell work of mine some time ago.

Great!

Erika, this is beautiful! I cannot believe that this is paper mache. The "compromise" on your final color choice was the right way to go, I think.

Very Interesting. When you were asking about the base. I thought to myself , a marble look would be nice. Then as I stolled down I saw your finished product. There it was a marble looking base. Great Job!!
