Evening on the lake

Quick watercolor. Just felt the need to paint something 'dark', and this is what came to be.

Good Morning

Postby Michael Ortega » Sat May 16, 2009 12:56 pm

The peice is done well. The sky is the hero here. The blues and whites of the canvas' top leading down to the orange sunset towards the bottom center set the mood perfectly. The sky grabs your attention and leads you to the orange. Then your eye hangs on to the horizon only to be captured by the left side foreground tree which points right back up to that sensuas sky. The colors appear to be well thought out and the
ushwork is varied and accents the different textures. The birds in the sky and the
eaks in the water contribute to the overall feel of the painting, keeping it from being too static.

You are doing some good work.
What I lack in talent I more than make up for with enthusiasm!

Hi Barb,

I agree with Michael 100%. You did a fantastic job here. The sky is very well done.

something dark? I thought you meant something like severed heads, but nevertheless, it is beautiful, and oh--dark. nicely done

LOL Danny!
I'll admit I feel like "rolling a few heads" on occassion...and I was feeling 'dark'(emmotionally) when I painted this...and BTW...this painting is reflecting my dark emmotions.
I don't usually paint such intense dark skies, or the atmosphere painted here...which to me...is on the 'dark' side of my emmotions.
To understand what this painting represents to me-
Dark stormy clouds, light setting on dismal day. Dark, cold looking water, and only an impression of 'life', as seen in the 2 distant birds...it sums up my feeling lately.
Some may say for me to let loose and really let my emmotions(good or 'dark') flow into my paintings...I will as I move forward on my journey...of that I am certain.
Thank you for viewing and commenting.

Barb, the sky and the setting sun with the birds looks quite friendly, not depressing at all. The treeline is very nice as well. The water might need some work. Your next one will be about a glorious dawn, right?

Thanks Erika.
We each have our own way in painting or expressing our emmotions...and this to me was a dark day.
My next is already finished, posted here in Fury. Thanks! :)
