Very nice scene. I would put some colour in the sky...maybe pink and blue (my faves).

Also, I cannot see a real focal point apart from the trees at the back.

Maybe you should put a tractor or a cow or an angelus! at an appropritae point.

The river is clever as it draws you to the centre to no focal point.

This is meant to be constructive criticism.

I think you have a good base to work on to make an even more exceptional painting.

God bless.

Dear Barbara,

Your painting is very beautiful. It remind me very colourful Polish meadows.
It shows a lot of space and a lot of freedom. If you added one bird or two( storks looking for frogs?) to your beautiful painting it would be a master piece.

all the best Barbara and welcome girl!!!

Bard, Really like the colors and details in this work. And the fact it is small. Makes it very impressive. What is plein air. What does that mean?
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

Good Morning

Postby Michael Ortega » Mon May 11, 2009 9:19 am

Good Job! I can't comment too much becouse the image is too small for me to see details.
From what I do see, my only concern is that the image is too static. The horizontal format weighs heavy on my eyes. It needs something to move my eyes vertically. Birds in the sky or fish in the stream; Even a more colorful working of the water (which mirrors the sky just a little too much).
You have a wonderful touch and your technique shows experiance and maturity.

Even thought I agree the sky is lacking something, I really like this piece!!! Great color choices, perspective, and just a quiet little piece of artwork...well done!!

I think your application of color is exceptionally well done and considering it was done in plein air, I am pretty well stunned. Your subtle shades of green with contrasting reddish tones are what make this so vi
ant and full of life for me. This actually looks like a studio worked painting.

Plein Aire

Postby stanton » Tue May 12, 2009 8:14 pm

Plein aire painting is not easy, and with this piece, you have done a great job. The meandering creek through the colorful marsh grass keeps the eyes moving about the painting and into the focal point of the tall trees in middle ground. A few specks of
ight white, representing a small flock of White Ibis, in front of those trees would strengthen the focal point a lot, and add some motion to the composition. The subtle, subdued coloring of the sky is good...does not allow your eyes to be drawn out of the scene. In the far background you added some green to the tree line that is mostly purple/blue....I would have left that out as it tends to distract from the feeling of depth. Finally, the lighter coloring of the marsh grass in the distance helps create depth. Well done!
