After seeing and commenting on so many 2D work, I have decided to give it a try. I have used my linocut prints as collage, and acrylic on watercolour paper. I had a lot of fun, and late nights have a purpose now. :)

You pleasantly surprised me here, Mike and Bruce. Hope to get better at it with practice. I'm told the arrangement of the dancers is too safe, too predictable. I had another version of the dancers, with a more interesting composition then this, but I went with the conventional one for some reason. But that's ok, I can always remake it. That's what I'm doing these days anyways.

Hi Erika

What a joyful picture! I like it a lot, no matter what your other critics told you. It reminds me a little of the antique roman vases.

I like the colors and movement. And I like the figures.

This is a nice piece, full of movement. I love the background! It makes the figures stand out very well. The composition is traditional as you say, but it looks good. If you want to change it, an idea would be to arrange the figures in a way that they
eak with the circular arrangement of the background. That would maket them stand out even more...I love contrasts so I might arrange them in a diagonal line or in zigzag. If, on the other hand you want to keep the same pattern as the background, I would arrange the figures in a spiral to give the impression that they're swallowed by the gravitational force of the background. But it's a matter of what you like best.

Hope this is of any help!

Take care!

I thought something else...I like it when figures are "lost" or reach out of the boundaries of the background...it makes it feel as the piece was larger than what it is. Do you know what I mean? It's just an idea...

Take care!

Well, not exactly. I'm thinking of shown just some parts of some (not all) of the figures right on the edges of the support. Like cutting them off. If it's a linear or zigzag composition it creates the impression that the figures are coming from somewhere else in the space outside the paintin...in a spiral composition it creates the impression as if the figures are swallowed up from outside the support. I hope I explained better...if not I'll try to sketch something and show you.

Brilliantly positive.

Great colours and shapes...quasi symmetrical.

The antithesis of Van Gogh's prisoner's being exercised.

God Bless.

Ok, I understand now Arlyn.
Thanks Shannon, and Neo. I checked out Van Gogh's Prisoners, I have never seen this one. What a powerful, sad picture. I think the man walking in front might be him, it looks like him. I have read many of his letters to his
other, so I understand why he painted this.
