I was going to say this is the 1st time I,ve seen a work by you that was not of a person. But then I seen the it is a painting of an eye. And we are seeing what this person is seeing. And also I see the hourse looking back at the person. Both kind of caught by suprize. I like the colors very much. The blue is very nice. I like the darkness and the light on the hourse. The work seens very rich. It looks as though it was painted with oils.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

Thanks John. I am glad the painting has made you think about what you are looking at. It is true that many people are left with the impression that I only paint people, but I also have other interests. Its just that painting people is the most time consuming task and doesn't allow for too many other projects.

Very nice, I especially like the title, very clever with the eye. It's a beautiful painting, colors are vivid and lovely. Your very talented!
The mere attempt to examine my own confusion would consume volumes.

eye/horse

Postby nigelartist » Fri Jun 06, 2008 10:04 am

Sorry I don't like it!

The only 'eye' art I like is the eye with the razor blade through it as shown in the surrealist film 'Un Chien Andalou'.

Also, I can't really see a relationship between the eye and the horse. An eye and a naked form maybe.

To end on a positive...nice colours and great detail.

Roxy Foxy

I would have to concur with John on this one...I like it. I would have to add that I like the incorporation of the background.

all the best... Bruce

Hi everyone
Thanks for taking time to look at my work. I am pleased that you agree about the colours and the detail. :) And as for not seeing a relationship between the eye and the horse...well... every eye has a different perspective and reflection   8) ... nothing wrong with that either.

Very unique!! A different perspective never hurts. I love the color choice and I think you did an awesome job on what you wanted to portray in this painting!! It was very well thought out as placing the horses, etc...in the right place was very important when doing a piece like this. I have to say that I didn't realize at first it was an "eye" which made it even more interesting. I think you did a great job!!!

Anelia, I have been thinking about your painting and read all the comments. You have a beautiful work here, but framing it inside the eye doesn't enhance it in my opinion. Quite the opposite. It makes me think why can't I see the whole painting?
As an experiment is great, but I don't think it's one of your best. Hope you don't mind an honest opinion. I do admire your talent and skill.

Not at all :) A constructive critique is always welcome.
I had various ideas how to portray beauty. It wasn't easy to choose one which eventually would fulfill my concept for beauty. In the main painting I
portray beauty which could be seen with open eyes, on the complementary paintings - with closed eyes (you could see 8 of them below size 10"/10" each, also acrylic on canvas). Why horse? In a few words beauty for me is vitality, youthfulness, happiness, health, freedom. At the beginning I thought the naked body would be good idea, but it appeared to be too obvious and I had feeling that 90% of other artists participating in the project will go for it. Well I was wrong, they were 97%.
The images on the small paintings are those I see when I close my eyes.
That is the story...

Thank you Erika once again for sharing your opinion.

Anelia, thanks for sharing the story behind the painting. It's good to be different. :) I like the other works of beauty with closed eyes. I'm looking forward to what you come up with next.

Anelia, in my opinion the work with the eye and the horse is absolutely splendid. The idea, the composition and the colors make me define this picture, in a single word, as GRATIOUS. It is so touching and tender...I would love to see it a bit more enlarged, especially for the beautiful reflections on the body of the horse. I could't find this work in your gallery, because I would like to upload it in my FAVORITE folder.
Good thoughts,

Thank you Nona,
I finished the painting recently and wanted to find out first what our art community think about it.
I am in Italy now. Sure I will add it to my gallery on my return home.

Toilet roll.

Postby nigelartist » Wed Jun 11, 2008 11:37 am

Hi

I use scrunched up toilet roll sometimes when painting in oil.

It's a good technique for smooth effects especially say a person's skin in a portrait.

I did one oil where I only used different palette knives.

There's a challenge for you. :!: :!: :!: :!:
