Satanfriendly newbie in town

Hi there all

First posting and introduction. I guess firstly don't read too much in to the name as definitely not a practicing Satanist that I know of! Reiki and Spiritualism I'll go for. I adopted the name some years back after someone's description of me. Since then I have received numerous sentiments and feelings for using satanfriendly as a title, but I can see why!

I work full time at sea and have done so for a large chunk of my life so art is really at the hobbyist level and no real dream of making it a commercial adventure. It is purely out of a need to create and because I like to release my mind in to something to be viewed and either loved or loathed. I love negative criticism as much as the positive as at least someone is talking about your work. As one lady once said in a exhibiting restaurant, 'I hate that painting so much I want a different table'. At least she looked and then drew up her own conclusion. Great.

I have been asked to sell certain pieces, but I have a very protective family when it comes down to my work! Personally it is the process of producing a piece which stimulates me and to be honest once I have completed a piece I care very little for it.

I am particularly interested in the Bauhaus period and base most of my work around the concept of balance in colour, shape, subject matter etc etc Not to say I restrict myself down to just this area, but it does play a larger part in my more recent work. My most recent piece of work was a stained glass window based on Piet Mondrian's work and very pleased with the end result. In some cases I try add a sense of humour in to the picture as a little giggle is every much as appreciated as words.

I love critics, if only to laugh about them.

I have some of my work on John Bourne's stuckists site ( www.stuckismwales.co.uk - under my real name Chris Pritchard)

I use art as an escapism and I like to think that life should be a creative experience.

Other interests lie in HiFi, particularly vinyl records where I rebuild turntables trying to make them more a piece of art more than simply a musically reproductive piece of machinery. Other interests include motorcycling, but nothing to do with art, just simply going fast and enjoying. I have started to see my way through Europe on the bike and love visiting galleries and buildings of architectural interest, particularly churches where some wonderful art can be found. Usually going fast at the same time.

So that is me (in a rather small nutshell) and I really hope to gain some new experiences from being here in this community. I am as much here to learn and to meet new people and share in the wonderful world of art in all respects.

Hi there Jen

Thank you for the kind words. I am just back from sea where I work and hope to post some more work shortly as I had problems downloading while away. Shall try give a better insight as to why I paint and more on the subject matters.

I think I can gain quite a lot from this site and nice to be with people with art in mind. It has been a bit of an enclosed trip so far

Chris - I understand completely. Though I do not work afar (in an area out of touch), I do live in a location that is VERY conservative, with very minimal Art Culture, even though it is getting better. Therefore when I found this site, I found it more than exhilerating to converse with people that have a love to create, even if not in the same medium as I. I do hope you feel like you can find a place here too.

I am absoluetly sure this place will give me the opportunity to create that little more. I have only just returned from Mexico (where I work) and the first hing I have done is get my easel out in preparation )a 6ft x 6ft canvas). I haven't touched paint for about a year now as I also build record players of all oddities and concentrated in this area.

Liverpool is not exactlty lacking in culture and does possess an artistic community, but it is very 'closed doors' (or so I have found) and difficult to get your foot in. But I love to create, if only for my own self satisfaction. I actually did a piece the last time home and my first adventure in to 'stained glass'. I must post/display on here soon as 'different' to say the least.

Thank you for your words of encouragement and a welcome most appreciated.

Be well
