Re: Color Harmony

A lot to study here , it`s a great painting .

I also think using a limited palette can make you a better painter , and improve .

I get a real feeling of heat haze , and distance looking at this .

The light in Australia , ( where I live ) is intense too , so I can relate to what you are saying.

Re: New Color Pencil Piece

Interesting composition , it`s got depth. The zebra stripes look a little bright , but you may be layering more on top .... Use black with caution , it can look flat and life less , but then again , you may still layer more color on top ? I try to limit the use of black and look for very dark substi...

Re: After a long break .....

Your comments are greatly appreciated , it`s very helpful to have " another eye " look over something . I think you are right about everything you have said here , and I can now see see the issue with the light. . The nose needs more symmetry as you say , and the forehead does look a littl...

Re: Rock formation sunset

I forgot to mention that your distant hazy blue background is very good . I took the liberty to add a slightly lighter value to it in the direction of the light source . I also added a small focus area where the sun is shining through the rock formation to give a focal point to the picture. I hope y...

Re: Rock formation sunset

Hi paullorin. Rock formations can take on so many forms and shapes. The silhouette in your picture appears to me to be a little too step like and regular. It can be very helpful during the planning of your picture to do some quick small value studies in pencil to arrive at a pleasing composition. I ...

Re: Composition Question...

I don`t think there is a right or wrong answer to this.

The painting should draw the viewer into the picture.

This short video explains one artist`s approach to composition .

I hope it may be useful to someone.

Re: Still trying to save this

Nice scene Pooch. Maybe strengthen the shadow under the seat of the boat slightly , and perhaps ( sparingly ) introduce some darker greens into the foreground . Aerial perspective usually produces the darkest shadows closest to the viewer , giving the illusion of depth. I think the cropping you did ...

Re: Drawing of Jenna Coleman

This is very nice work indeed.

The only small suggestion I have to add , ( and it is small ) is the placement of the highlights in the eyes. I think they may both perhaps be shifted slightly to the right.

Re: Wip - Still life with cherries and a neckless

Just a suggestion , perhaps a simple image like this would benefit from a tighter crop , such as this ?
The subject would be proportionally larger .
I think the cherries are very good.

After a long break .....

Hello everyone. It`s been a while since I have done any drawing , and you don`t realize just how rusty you get from lack of practice. The medium is Derwent Artist`s Pencils , on black wet and dry paper . I like this ground because it can hold a lot of the pencil`s pigment. I would like to invite som...
