Re: What inspires you to draw?

Good morning Chirchri. Well, I see that there is still no fool like an old fool. You are now the same age as my wife was when I met her in 1970. Still like how you express yourself though. And don't try, do. Just a little more encouragement from a grandfather. Study is good and it should never end....

Re: What inspires you to draw?

Really? How old are you my dear? My collection of six paintings titled "Mountain Winter Arroyos" was based on different color splotches drifting across my closed eye lids while trying to take an after breakfast nap. I got up and went to work. By 3:30 p.m. the same day all six were finishe...

What inspires you to draw?

As for me, really anything can inspire me to make a drawing. This had happened to me a memorable amount of times when I was about to fall asleep; all of a sudden I saw something that I liked with my "mind's eye", got a piece of paper and pencil and quickly sketched it, before starting a ne...

Re: Trying something new with colour

Hi! I work mainly in realism and thought I would try 'pushing' the colour in this latest piece, also it's the first time I composed in a square format. This piece is mainly watercolour with some pencil crayon—so, mixed media I guess. ANY and ALL feedback/criticism is much appreciated. Thanks! It lo...

Re: The value of ASC to me

The figure's faces are drawn with very accurate proportions and look very expressive, especially in the eyes.

Re: Nice work of Leonid Afremov

Interesting . I think the flat, rather graphic style creates some interesting patterns within the space.

Re: it is the best way to dry oil paint faster?

I once had less than a week to do a portrait painting to present at a funeral. It took me three days to do the painting and three days to dry it, varnish it and frame it. If you blow a hot stream of air onto the face of the painting it will dry it and crack it because the paint under the surface is...

The reason

When I see something especially beautiful or otherwise captivating, I want to own it, devour it, and possess it completely. Sometimes I can just buy the object in question, if it's a physical object, and sometimes it's enough to save the file, if it's a digital image, and then I can look at those th...

Re: You ever lost your artistic abilities?

Hello chirchri. Let me start by saying I agree whit Carl once more. And then. Yes! I used to be like that to. But then I found sculpting whit clay. Which was a new medium for me a couple years ago. Sens then I have been very productive in all types of moods. (note: that doesn't mean that i'm always...

Re: You ever lost your artistic abilities?

Bluntly, I cannot paint or draw anything when I get depressed. I start going down that road about feeling like I am worthless, only pretending to be an artist. When I feel the state of depression coming on I usually start doing yard work or cleaning the garage or my studio, anything active to lesse...

You ever lost your artistic abilities?

I have been quite depressed for a long time, and I always felt an urge to express myself while I was, but since that pressure’s gone, and I’m “happy”, I just don’t feel like I can create anything.
Anyone here ever experienced something like this?
Thanks for your time.

Can a fine art painting lose value?

A fine art painting's value is directly tied with its past, in some cases more so than its visual appeal. If you were to take an exact, stroke for stroke, copy of Mona Lisa and try selling it, the value would be deemed as lesser than that of the original because it no longer has the history connecte...

What exactly are the color mixing rules

We know that

red and blue make purple...

yellow and blue make green...

red and yellow make orange..

Yet this schemata doesn't work for frequencies of light.
Mixing blue light and green light makes yellow light.
Mix every color light together and one gets white light.
