Re: Self portrait w/buntheain proxmialis

nigelartist, Roman? Ill take that as a compliment, thank you. I think the extracted upturn of the nose and the over emphasized jaw give the figure that sense of confidence. E, As for the name. I don't think bunheain proxmialis is a real thing. I have severe dyslexia and most words exist in picture o...

Re: Here is a graphic

I really like the placement of the text. Its much more interesting there than if it were centered on top or bottom, or split. I agree with E that the image would look fuller if that guitar was tilted down a little. I also would like to see a different color in the background. The high value blue mak...

Re: Emotions Unveiled

It has a strong sense of movement. I feel my eyes being pushed in a circle counter clockwise, and i see different brush strokes on each lap around. I didn't really notice the center much, I think due to it relatively cool color and low chroma. I think it works well as a compositional experiment. I w...

Self portrait w/buntheain proxmialis

001.JPG oil on panel, about 29x33 Hears a self portrait I did. I'm pretty happy with the overall piece. I would like some feed back on the colors and weather or not the figure and the background interact. I wanted it to look like I was standing in front of the round structures, called buntheain pro...

Re: Hello from Tennessee

Welcome to ASC and portrait painting. I think some of the best advice I got when I first started was from a song: " The grates weren't great because at birth they could paint, the greats were great because they painted a lot". The more you do the better you get and your best lessons will c...

Re: Looking for advice on this....

Thanks JamieFoxx and welcome to ASC. That feeling of financial bondage at the hands of a corporate overlord is one I know well. I spent 10 years as a satellite engineer working for people like Directv and Dish Network.

Re: Need help finishing this up

So I set this one aside for a little while and only recently revived it. I worked on the nose and mouth and little and added some reflections from the new background. I think the more neutral background works better this her skin tones. The teeth may still be to white.

36x48, oil on panel

I added some sublet detail on the shirt and in the foreground to better show the flat surface at the bottom. All in all I don't know if it looks different enough to warrant another picture but here it is.

Re: Sci fi Urban wasteland (watercolor on paper)

I'm in the same boat with Denny. I really like the way the geometry of the foreground/concret plays with the organic shapes in the background/sky. You did an awesome job with the warm and cool brown. The only thing I would change it the emptiness. There's no clutter or garbash or anything. That and ...

Re: Looking for advice on this....

Medved35 : His placement was always a problem. I wanted him to dominate the picture plan so if I place so both arms are inside he ends up sitting in the middle and the painting starts to feel like a box. With his arm hanging off one side I think it help imply a continuance of the picture plane beyon...

Re: Looking for advice on this....

ehoeveler: you've always given good advice in the past but i went ahead and added some more lines on the ground and shirt anyway. as soon as the sun in the right place I'll get some pics up but I think it helps articulate the idea. " Set in stone" is a good one. Its in the running. My gf s...

Looking for advice on this....

to pecies.JPG to pecies.JPG I think I'm all finished. Im leaving the block kind of rough on purpose. I might pull some more lines up into the shirt to show more of the change from figure to landscape but I'm not sure yet. I'm also having problems coming up with a title. I've crossed off all the obv...

Re: Need help finishing this up

Thanks, I got a lot of advice from my earlier post. With out those I don't think I would have been able to get her this far along. Especially JOHNCEE who mentioned the high value of the original background. I started out doing graffiti, so I use my name a lot in my painting out of design habit. I wo...

Re: Need help finishing this up

Hear is were I'm at with this. I darkened the background and added more subtle color on the face. I also spent some time working on the color temps. I have some details to work out on the mount and chin but I think its pretty much finished. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Re: Need help finishing this up

Thank you all for your suggestions, especially ehoeveler. I took about a week off from working on this. After I came back to it I saw the problem with the hair right away. I played around with a couple of diffident strategies on how to fix it and this is what I came up with. I'm in the process of bu...

Re: Black & Gold Psychedelic

I apologize, I didn’t read over that first page closely enough. It’s mostly about tantric sex. Here’s one that actually describes exercises for you to do.

Re: Black & Gold Psychedelic

Steezy, The composition is pretty strong and I like the repeating themes. I inverted the colors and actually prefer it blue and white. If you are interested in developing your drawing skills the easiest and most effective way is to draw. Find something that interests you and just draw, draw, draw. W...

Re: need advice

JKB, One way to make colors seem brighter is to surround it with dull colors. Another way is to place it near is opposite on the color wheel. Since your main subject is blue maybe a background of dull grey/orange smoke or something to that effect. A few artists to look at would be Titan and Adam Mil...
