Wanelo (“wah-nee-loh” a mash-up of Want+Need+Love), is a site making the online shopping experience flow more like...window shopping. And the more you use it, the more you see things you like while you virtual window shop.

A teenage daughter of an acquaintance of mine stated “it’s the next Etsy”. Well there is something ironic here, because on Wanelo, people will actually post items from Etsy stores. So I suppose a better way to describe it is as a marketing tool for online sellers. Every item listed on Wanelo was added by a community member. This 2 year old start-up based in San Francisco is basically putting little sellers on the same footing as big brands.

A Pinterest or Tumblr user will see a familiar format on Wanelo. A flood of images will fill the page and if you like something you see, then you click on it to go to the store page and find out more. Generally speaking, there is a buy button on everything. However, if you wish to browse and click now, purchase later – you can do that. Wanelo has collections you can custom make, and you can also follow people, stores, and other collections. It’s a site where you can share in one big interconnected online shopping venture. Tag a friend or save it for later. Keyword hashtags are also in use here. Join the community by creating an account or directly connecting from FaceBook, invite friends, and create a profile... The ease of use, familiar internet savvy and the popularity of its mobile app are all very favorable features.

Wanelo is ideal for letting other users know gifts that you would like and for promoting items you want to sell from your own personal website. So here is the scoop on how it can be used by creative individuals selling art over the internet: add Wanelo “Save” buttons to the product pages on your website. When someone purchases an item by clicking on it from Wanelo, the site takes an affiliate commission of each sale.

The way to create a store is to become a member and post your products to Wanelo. The only other step at this point is to become verified. This is what they look for when verifying stores: Products are purchasable from the store online; Product pages can be viewed without an account; Contact information for the store, including a physical address and phone number, is visible; The store has a reputation for providing good customer service and for shipping in a timely manner. Both Etsy and Ebay stores are well represented here.

Wanelo has grown drastically since it began, how it fares in the future is yet to be seen.
