Encaustic is considered one of the most ancient painting mediums in the world. The word "encaustic" comes from the Greek encaustikos, "to burn in," referring to the process of fusing the layers of paint together. The oldest surviving use is the famous Fayum portraits painted on tombs from Roman Egypt around 100-350 A.D. After disappearing for much of history, it was revived in the 1950s by Jasper Johns, who is often considered the father of contemporary encaustic paintings. view full article here

Many art materials produced today are safe to use, but only if reasonable precautions are taken. Artists’ materials may contain volatile solvents, lead, harmful dust, or other toxic substances. As an example cadmium is an extremely toxic metal found in today’s oil paints (cadmium red, cad yellow, etc.). Lead, arsenic, chromium, silica dust, etc., can also be found in selected art materials. These art supplies can be purchased but with the caveat that their availability in the marketplace assumes proper manufacturing techniques, use, disposal, and so on. view full article here
Two-Point Perspective, Depth, and Accuracy - by Richard Kennedy
Two-point perspectives differ from one-point perspectives in their use of a second vanishing point. They also differ in another way: two-point perspectives never have horizontal lines. All lines except verticals are drawn to a vanishing point. Their are many ways to draw two-points, the best methods being ones we can easily remember and apply to the design process with relative quickness. We will study the measuring point method of setting up a two-point perspective. view full tutorial here
